USB is a serial bus standard which allow connection of client devices to a host computer. USB was designed to allow connection of many computer peripherals to a single standardized interface socket improving the standard plug and play capabilities as ell allow hot swapping of client devices without rebooting or turning off the device/computer . Other convenient features include the option of providing power to low-consumption devices as well use of a same generic standard device drivers for many USB devices.
Design of USB is standardized by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), an industry standards group who incorporate companies from both the computer and electronics industries. Members have included companies like Agree (now part of LSI Corporation), Apple Inc., Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft and NEC.
